Learn
about the feel, timing, and balance
required to achieve excellence with horses - and learn about the 'one other
thing that makes it all work.'
Attend a Trail and Obstacle
Horsemanship Clinic with Patrick King and you will begin to understand feel,
timing, and balance with a horse and how to put all of that to work for you in a
real-life environment.
Groundwork
This portion of the clinic is
about getting a horse useful on the ground. It's not about fancy tricks or
maneuvers, it's about achieving lightness, respect, trust, and harmony while
have your negotiate over, under, around, and through obstacles that you might
encounter along the trail or in other situations. Learn how to break down
the braces in your horse's mind and body so that he is mentally and physically
with you.
Once you have lightness, respect,
trust, and harmony, you can get a horse beyond plain usefulness to the point
that he's handy. Once he's handy, then you can add the fancy maneuvers if
you like - and they will be easy to teach and develop because you already have
the lightness, respect, trust, and harmony in place already.
Riding
Just like you did on the ground,
once you get in the saddle, you will learn to break down the brace's in the
horse's mind and body so that he can be mentally and physically with you while
the two of you negotiate over, under, around, and through obstacles or along the
trail.
Riding a horse is simply not falling off.
True horsemanship is about understanding and controlling every muscle,
every movement, and every emotion at every moment. And negotiating
obstacles or riding along a trail should be just as much fun for your horse as
it is for you!
Patrick will break down the basics
of horsemanship to help you discover and eliminate your horse's braces.
Again, it's not about tricks to start with... it's about lightness, respect,
trust, and harmony. Once you have that, you can easily build on it to
develop more advanced communication and maneuvers.
Every horsemanship clinic is
tailored specifically to the horses and riders that show up, but the basics are
always the same.
Topics covered in
every clinic are:
Feel
Timing
Cadence
Desensitizing
Speed control
Lightness and softness
Rein and leg positions
Control of the hindquarters
Control of the front end
Operating the life in the horse
Finding the opportunities within
every difficulty
Keeping the horse's mind engaged
while you negotiate obstacles
